We, Women of the National Union for Development and Democraty (N.U.D.D.), among which some of us have actively struggled to prepare the big demonstration of women for peace, would like to welcome our Sisters coming from all part of the world and attending in Ouagadougou for 72 hours from the 15th to the 17 th October, to the differents demonstrations planned, and especially that of the 17th October whick is the day when a statue will be publically baptized and the day when the women Charter will be given to the autorithies.
We are pleased to welcome you in Burkina Faso, a country which qualities of hospitality, of hard workers, of courage, have been highly spoken of by famous personalities such as the General de Gaulle, and which became " the country of honest people ". You are welcome in this country which is also the country of Thomas Sankara, of Norbert Zongo.
As it has been written by the famous organisation ATTAC, there is " 2005 good reasons to demonstrate " because the values, defenited by the women world Charter for humanity which are equality, freedom, solidary, justice and peace, are universal values which the world need so. Each woman must struggle to make these values enter deeply into the mind of people. Each woman must fight to make people be aware of there values, so that they can become a reality.
But we don't have the right to hide to our hosts, the subjects that will be
gently discussed during these festivities : to tell the truth, our country is
not going well and peace is in danger. Why ? Simply because of all these unpunished
blood crimes (more than 100 listed by the Burkinabe Movement of Peaople and
Human Rights - BMPHR), of bad-ruling, of meaningless democracy, of external
interference and specially of progressing monarchisation of the regime which
is very frightening because the Burkinabe, as well as their fellows in all overt
the world, do not want to suffer from dictatorship even under its hidden form.
- Women from all the world, what you must know is that the ruling in Burkina
Faso wen astray because the responsibles of the regime, have neglected the Poors
who are more and more poor in Burkina Faso, and you well know ; thas as usual,
it is the women who suffer the most from this situation. Whereas the international
institutions have really helped Burkina Faso, this money has only servec the
interest of few rulers who have developped themselves, in such a way that according
to the famous white Father living in our country since decades, Father Balemans,
the swiss banks are full of money coming from our dear country.
- Women from the whole word, what you must also know, is that Democray is not
what it should be ; it is a " Canada dry " democracy withe the taste
of this drink which bottle looks like alcohol bottle, but which is not and which
is completely tasteless. And what you must also know is that the few democratic
progressions obtained by the Opposition by multiples struggles, have all been
contested (and that is well known) by the Power since 2002.
- But Women from all parts of the world, there is more than that. At the moment
when you will be celebrating this great day of peace, here, there will be a
crime being committed against Democracy, a crime againt Constitution because
we all know that the High Court of Justice will allow the ruling President,
Blaise Compaoré, who has already spent18 years in power, to be candidate
in spite of the article 37 of the Constitution, saying that the presidential
mandate must not exceed two terms.
Do you see, Dear Sisters, with such violations made to our fondamental Law,
the country cannot hope to live in peace.
What you will see here in Ouagadougou is not real ; it is artificial. Everybody will sure go out, because that is how things are, even in hidden democracy, to celebrate with you but the heart of many Burkinabe, of many women in Burkina Faso, will be in mourning, because whit this crime, we will be trapped because the outgoing président, who will win by force because of an electoral commission which is at his disposal, will win and we will have him as candidate in 2010, and if God gives him a long life, he will be able to modify the Constituty and stay untill his death. Is that the way how Democracy must be conceived ? Your Charter, that is also ours, doesn't fight against injustice ? Indeed, what is going on in Burkina Faso is a big injustice and we, Women of N.U.D.D., want to denounce it.
We insist to open our hearts to you, simply, because we know that you can understand
us.
Help us so that, in every part of the world, People be aware of what is going
on in Burkina Faso, where peace is in danger.
Thank you for having taken your time to read us.
For the symbol, this Declaration will be distributed into 2005 samples, half in Frnech and half in English, during the ceremonies.
